Commissioned by Annie Jeng, Above Home, Beyond the Sea is based on a famous Chinese folk song, "Ocean, My Mother." Deeply touched by Annie's personal story around the song, I decided to expand upon the original meaning this song expresses, and to wave different emotions including nostalgia, grief, anger, and bittersweet into the work.
